Bolognese

My mom used this recipe for Christmas dinner and I thought it was great! I recommend serving with pappardelle and shredded parmesan.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbs Olive Oil
  • 1 Carrot
  • 1 Celery Stalk
  • 1 Onion
  • 1/2 Lbs Ground Beef
  • 1/2 Lbs Ground Pork
  • 1/2 Cup Dry Red Wine
  • 2 Tbs Tomato Paste
  • 2 1/2 Cups Tomato Puree (passata)
  • 2 Whole Bay Leaves
  • 1/3 Cup Milk

Directions

  1. Finely chop the the carrot, celery and onion.
  2. Fry chopped vegetables until onion is transparent.
  3. Add the ground beef and pork and fry until thoroughly browned.
  4. Add wine and cook until the liquid has evaporated.
  5. Decrease the heat to low and add the rest of the ingredients except for the milk.
  6. Let simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add milk and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
